| Trening in Tang Soo Do Main Page » Trening in TSD The shortest way to describe TSD is to say, that it is a style between Japanese karate nad Korean Taekwondo. But TSD is a modern, open style, so we try to get all the best from other styles, until it is not a conflict with the basic principles of TSD. Things we train: · Hyung (forms); · Jok Ki (kicking techiniques); · Soo Ki (hand techniques); · Dea Ryun (free sparring); · Philisophy; · Ho Sin Sul (self-defence); · Kyuk Pa (breakings); · Moo Ki (weapon); Hyung - forms - one of the most important parts of the exams is a performance of forms. It's a traditional combination of different blocks, kicks and punches. Many TSD forms are similar to other styles, eg TSD Pyung Ahn - Japanese Pinian, Heian or Bassai Hyung - Kong San Kun. There are also some forms created by our Grand Master Hang Kee, such as: Kicho Hyung, Chil Sung,Yuk Ro or Hwan Sun.
Jok Ki - kicking techniques - Korean styles are fameous of powerfull kicks, some are performed 2 meters hight and are similar to TKD kicks. In TSD there are many air kicks, low kicks, and kicks on the ground as a part of self-defence.
Soo Ki - hand techniques - sometimes TSD is described as a style between karate and taekwondo. In TSD we make many similar techniques, such as blocks (np.soto uke - TSD Phakeso Ahnu Ro Mhak Ki). We also practise some boxing techniques.
Dea Ryun - free sparring - TSD is a traditional style, but we also practise free sparring, it can give a lot of fun during competitions. . Sparring is an important part of training in TSD, if you do not practise free sparring, it can be very harmful. We spar in protective gears, women also wear body protection. In TSD you do not stop a punch before the target. During competitions there are weight categories (but there is only one OPEN fomula) General rules in TSD free sparring: semi contakt (a fight is stopped after a point is scored). You get a point for a hit, but not if it is blovked. Kicks to head and body are allowed. You cannot make low kicks, kick to the back of the head or clinch. A person who scores 5 points is a winnter full contact - OPEN. Fight is not being stopped after a hit. 2 minutes rounds. You can punch and kick ( also "Low kick"). The winner is pointed by a judge Philosophy- TSD traing is supposed to make you a better person. Thanks to TSD philosophy you can learn tolerance, how to be a good for other people. There are many elements of korean traditions. We train in dobok, use korean terminology and terms (read more here TSD). Ho Sin Sul - self-defence - it is a very important part of TSD training.
